Eligible candidates are recognized for their distinguished contributions to global missions, pastoral ministry, biblical scholarship, or Christian education.

Conferred Credentials

Strict Non-Academic Designation

An honorary doctorate is a commendatory honor, not an academic degree. It carries no coursework, credit hours, or academic requirements. It is awarded strictly 'honoris causa' (for the sake of honor) and may not be used as an academic credential for professional employment, licensing, or teaching appointments.

Strict No-Sale Policy: FMI honorary doctorates are never sold, traded, or negotiated. There are no fees associated with conferring or receiving an honorary degree. FMI does not accept financial contributions or sponsorships in exchange for nominating or approving a candidate. Any solicitation or representation to the contrary is fraudulent.

Nomination Process

Candidates must be nominated by a third party (e.g., an active ordained pastor, denominational leader, or FMI alumnus) who can personally attest to the nominee's character and ministerial longevity. Self-nominations are not accepted. The nomination dossier is compiled, reviewed by the Faculty Senate, and submitted to the Board of Trustees for final, unanimous approval.
